WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CATHOLIC IN SYDNEY 2011

•October 16, 2011 • 2 Comments

in sydney australia in 2011 being a catholic means that i am able to turn to a spiritual side in my life as well as a physical side on earth. i am able to link my personal life with my spirit life swell if i went to world youth day. by going to church i can engage with what the catholic faith used to be like in the 1980’s – 1990’s. during primary school my mum and dad made me go to church every saturday, they even got me to be an alter boy once or twice. I haven’t really gone to church at all during my 3 years at high school but my mum and sister go on a regular basis. going to a catholic school means that i get to immerse myself in the catholic faith with my great RE teacher Mr Burden and the rest of my class mates. We all enjoy our RE classes because they help us to understand more clearly about Jesus’ life.

examples of good

this is the video tribute to fred hollows. he was a truly good man that gave his life to charity and to helping the restoring of sight to the poor. he was a stone called example on what this world should be like.

If everybody would care at least a bit like he did,the world would be a much better place!

Whe should see him as an Idol!

But unfortunately egoism, money and might rules the world today

People like Fred Hollow are real heroes!

Hollows died in Sydney in 1993 at the age of 63. The cause of his death was metastatic renal cancer primarily affecting his lungs and brain.

APOCOLIPTIC WRITING

•June 3, 2011 • Leave a Comment

IN THE BOOK of revelations there are a number of different examples of when dooms day will be or how it will come about for example: revelation 6:12-15 “i looked when he opened the sixth seal, and behold there was a great earthquake.”

apocalyptic writing wasn’t uncommon in the days in and around the time Jesus was on earth. they mostly predicted how the world would end, they would never give dates. THESE DAYS there have been  a lot of apocalypses foreseen but obviously none of these have come true. The most famous date for the end of the world and the one believed by most people would have to be the apocalypse foreseen by the myans. They said that the worlds demise would occur on 26th of december 2012. Whether or not this is true or not is yet to be seen but one thing we do know is that their have been a number of different accounts in the bible of apocalyptic writing- what that means, well your guess is as good as mine.

MY LAI MASSACARE

the killing of all these people in vietnam was unnecessary but i think that the soldiers who carried out these orders should not be blamed. they were trained to kill and they were told to kill so they killed. the government was hungry for answers and they were getting desperate as the Vietcong was getting stronger. whilst a tragic event in the history of warfare and the history of man itself this event was the turning point in war as we see it. if this event had not happened or had not got out to the press who knows how many more people the americans would have butchered in this way.

paul of tarsus

Paul set the tone for Christianity, including emphasis on celibacy and theory of divine grace and salvation, as well as eliminating the circumcision requirement. It was Paul who called the New Testament euangelion, ‘the gospel’.

Paul met James, the brother of Jesus, and Peter, the Apostle, in Jerusalem. He then went on to Antioch where he converted Gentiles. This helped make Christianity a universal religion.

Stephen is Killed    Acts 7:54-8:3

7:54  When they heard these things, they became furious and ground their teeth at him.
7:55  But Stephen,  full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently  toward heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
7:56  “Look!” he said. “I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

7:57  But they covered their ears,  shouting out with a loud voice, and rushed at him with one intent.
7:58  When they had driven him out of the city, they began to stone him, and the witnesses laid their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.
7:59  They continued to stone Stephen while he prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”
7:60  Then he fell to his knees and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he died.
8:1
And Saul agreed completely with killing him.

 The Earthquake Frees Paul

26   Suddenly there was an earthquake, so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.
27   When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped.
28   But Paul shouted in a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.”
29   The jailer called for lights, and rushing in, he fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.
30   Then he brought them outside and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31   They answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
32   They spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
33   At the same hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and his entire family were baptized without delay.
34   He brought them up into the house and set food before them; and he and his entire household rejoiced that he had become a believer in God.
35   When morning came, the magistrates sent the police, saying, “Let those men go.”
36   And the jailer reported the message to Paul, saying, “The magistrates sent word to let you go; therefore come out now and go in peace.”
37   But Paul replied, “They have beaten us in public, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and now are they going to discharge us in secret? Certainly not! Let them come and take us out themselves.”
38   The police reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Roman citizens;
39   so they came and apologized to them. And they took them out and asked them to leave the city.
40   After leaving the prison they went to Lydia’s home; and when they had seen and encouraged the brothers and sisters there, they departed.

THESE ARE THE WAYS THAT WE COMMUNICATE NOW IN THE 21ST CENTURY

INTERPRETATION OF LITERARY FORMS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

By working this term and a half on literary forms in the old testament I have learnt much information through the various forms of work that i have done. I have learnt much through the prezis i and my group have worked on and alot through our my assignment on glogster.

myths and legends

by watching the prezis on myths and legends i have learnt about how prophets came to be, and how the stories of Jesus and his ventures came to be.

Poetry and Songs

poetry and songs are scattered throughout the old testament with many mentions of prayers and sayings. The mass today uses a number of poetry and songs throughout the liturgy with most coming from the book of psalms.

Laws in Religion

the laws for religion these days are a lot less strict then they were 2000 or so years ago. the ten commandments are a good examples of laws and rules in religion as they gave and still give catholics a guide of how they can live a fruitful and happy life with God.

Historical Stories

the whole bible is filled with stories that are not
